Precision investment casting, also known as precision casting, is a lost wax casting process used to make parts from ferrous and non-ferrous metals. "Lost Wax Casting" means that the metal part is made from a wax mold.
The precision investment casting process begins when you design and manufacture a wax injection mold ㅡ, which is used to create a wax pattern with the same geometry as the desired finished product. Depending on the complexity of the design, you may need to create one wax pattern or as many as twenty. The goal here is to pattern the geometry of the intended finished casting when assembled.
Next, the assembled wax mold is dipped in a ceramic slurry until a ceramic mold is formed. The ceramic mold is then preheated before filling with molten metal, allowing it to solidify and break to form the desired metal casting.

Why choose precision investment casting?
Precision casting offers several advantages over other manufacturing processes. For example, the process reduces manufacturing costs by eliminating material waste challenges commonly found in subtractive manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining. It also reduces the long production times commonly found in metal fabrication processes such as welding.
Additionally, precision casting allows you to manufacture complex parts that may be difficult to manufacture using CNC machines. So let's say you want to make complex internal passages in a metal part, curved blades for an impeller, or cooling passages in complex equipment with an excellent surface finish. In this case, you must consider using precision investment casting.
Precision forging also allows you to create complex shapes, such as the precision investment casting process. However, since the forging process requires specially designed molds, the associated mold cost is higher than that of precision casting. Additionally, precision casting offers greater design freedom, allowing you to produce larger, more complex geometries than other manufacturing techniques.
