In the event that the orcs attacked Azeroth during the First War and dealt a decisive and devastating attack on humanity (one of World of Warcraft's major moments), the Alliance of Lordaeron was formed as a way to deter the threat of the Orcs WOTLK Gold
. The high elves, who were in debt to humans for their aid to fight the trolls that threatened them before, readily joined forces with the earlier Alliance. This would prove to be their salvation from the trolls, for it wasn't long before the orcs attacked their homeland of Quel'thalas. As is played out fully in the events of the popular RTS game Warcraft 3. Arthas Menethil - possibly the franchise's most infamous and impactful character - was betrayed by his own people and pledged his life to the Scourge. His aim was to revive the powerful necromancer, Kel'thuzad. However, to accomplish this , he needed the kind of power only located in the high-elf city of Silvermoon. In particular, he sought the Sunwell that contained infinite magical energy that served as the beating heart of the high elf culture.

After all this destruction and the loss of his father the King, the Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider had no choice but scrape the last of his family and seek assistance elsewhere.
