Netflix, the premier global streaming service, has embarked on an exciting new project in Istanbul, Turkey.

Berkun Oya, born in 1977, is a distinguished figure in Turkish theatre and cinema.

He began his career as a playwright in his early twenties, quickly gaining recognition and becoming the youngest playwright commissioned by Turkey’s state theatre.

In 1999, he founded Krek, an influential contemporary theatre company based in Istanbul.

Oya’s work has earned him numerous awards both domestically and internationally for his contributions to theatre and film.

His debut feature film, “Happy New Year - London,” released in 2007, garnered him the Best Director award at the Strasbourg International Film Festival.

Beyond film, Oya has created and written several television dramas, including the internationally licensed series “End,” which has been adapted in five countries and sold in seventeen.

He also produced Turkey’s first digital series, “Innocent.”

In addition to his creative work, Oya has published collections of his short stories, newspaper articles, and plays.

He is also involved in academia, leading theatre and screenplay workshops at universities and lecturing on the creative process at Istanbul Bilgi University.
