Netflix has given a series order to a brand new supernatural horror show called Archive 81, which draws loose inspiration from the well-known found footage horror podcast of the same name.
The series centers on Dan Turner, an archivist played by Emmy Award nominee Mamoudou Athie, who accepts a mysterious assignment to restore a damaged collection of videotapes dating back to 1994. Through this process, he begins piecing together the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras, portrayed by Dina Shihabi, who had been investigating a dangerous cult. As Dan becomes increasingly immersed in Melody's story, he grows certain that he can rescue her from the horrifying fate she suffered 25 years prior.
The show will consist of eight one-hour episodes, and is being helmed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who previously worked on The Vampire Diaries and The Boys, serving as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
Rebecca Thomas, known for her work on Stranger Things and Limetown, takes on the role of director and executive producer, and will direct the first episode along with half of the season's episodes.

Paul Harris Boardman, writer of The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Deliver Us from Evil, developed the original script and serves as writer and executive producer. The original Archive 81 podcast creators Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell will serve as co-producers on the series.
